Sir:-

With reference to my despatch to you of the 30th

June last on the subject of the piracy of Messrs. Hung

and Company's vessel "Chit On", I have the honour to

state that I have received no answer although a month

and more has elapsed.

I an informed that Chang Shih yi who was arrested

by the Haun chou police has died, and I shall be oblig-

ed if you will inform me of what transpired at the time;

and also forward me depositions obtained from Wu Ch'êng

chi who has been arrested, and also let me know what

further action has been taken in the matter.
